Make a Minion Play dough

The girls have been absolutely thrilled with all the Minion-themed activities I've come up with lately. One idea that seemed like a lot of fun was letting them create their own Minions using play dough. There’s something magical about how versatile these little characters are—you can customize them however you want.
To get started, we mixed up some bright yellow play dough. We added a generous splash of yellow food coloring along with a hint of glitter to give it that classic Minion vibe. And naturally, there had to be just one scent—BANANA! We tossed in a couple of teaspoons of banana extract, and the aroma alone was enough to spark excitement. For our supplies, we also gathered:
- Googly eyes
- Black pipe cleaners
- Blue cupcake cases
- Black ribbon or elastic
- Small plastic lids (which turned out to be the perfect size!)
The girls dove right into making their Minions without needing much assistance. The googly eyes and pipe cleaners instantly transformed blobs of dough into recognizable Minions. It was fascinating to see how slight variations in facial features made each one unique.
Even though we didn’t follow any strict templates, the results were adorable. The tactile experience of shaping the dough while adding accessories like tiny plastic lids for glasses made this project even more engaging. Watching their creativity unfold was truly rewarding.
By the end of the session, both girls were beaming with pride over their finished creations. They couldn’t stop talking about how cool their Minions looked. This activity wasn’t just fun; it also provided a great sensory experience. If you’re planning a Minion-themed party or simply looking for a creative way to keep kids entertained, this DIY project is sure to hit the spot.
I’ve got to say, the sense of accomplishment they felt afterward was priceless. It reminded me how important it is to encourage imaginative play—it fosters creativity and gives kids a chance to express themselves freely. Plus, who doesn’t love bananas?
This whole process has been such a joy, and I’m already thinking about what other Minion-inspired crafts we can try next. Whether it’s baking banana muffins or designing costumes, there’s always room for more Minion fun around here!
