Make a Minion Play dough

The girls have been absolutely thrilled with all the Minion-themed activities I've come up with lately, and making their own Minions out of play dough seemed like such a fun idea. I mean, who doesn't love Minions? They're quirky, colorful, and you can customize them however you want.
We started by making bright yellow play dough. To get that classic Minion hue, we used yellow food coloring and even threw in a touch of glitter to give it that extra flair. As for the scent, there was no question—banana, of course! We added a few teaspoons of banana flavoring, and just the aroma alone made the whole experience feel more playful. For our materials, we gathered:
- Googly eyes (they’re an absolute must)
- Black pipe cleaners for the iconic goggles
- Blue cupcake cases for the overalls
- Black ribbon or elastic to create belts
- Small plastic lids from packaging that happened to be the perfect size for Minion heads
The girls had so much fun getting creative with their Minions. All they needed was a little guidance on where to place the googly eyes and pipe cleaners, and they were off! It was fascinating to see how small tweaks—like adding more or fewer lines for mouths or eyebrows—could completely change the personality of each Minion.
What I loved most was seeing how unique each creation turned out. Even though everyone followed similar steps, every Minion ended up looking distinct. Some had big, round eyes; others sported smaller, mischievous ones. A couple even got tiny hats made from the blue cupcake cases!
By the end of the session, the girls couldn’t have been prouder of their handiwork. Their Minions were proudly displayed on the kitchen counter, and they kept referring back to them throughout the day. This kind of activity isn’t just entertaining—it’s also a great sensory experience. Plus, it would be fantastic for a themed birthday party or any gathering where kids (and adults!) are into Minions.
I think we’ll definitely revisit this project again soon. Maybe next time, we’ll try out different colors or experiment with new accessories. Either way, it’s always a hit with the girls, and I’m sure it would be enjoyed by any Minion fan out there!

This was such a delightful afternoon filled with giggles and imagination. If you’ve ever considered trying something similar, go for it—you won’t regret it!
