I absolutely adore activities where kids come up with their own ideas. When children think of projects themselves, they tend to become far more engaged and enthusiastic about them. A few years back, we transformed a large cardboard box into a theater, and while the girls loved it, it ended up being a bit too big for our space. This time around, they decided to create a smaller version using a cereal box.
The first step was to turn the box inside out. Cereal boxes are notoriously tricky to paint because of their shiny surface. All you need to do is cut along one side, flip it inside out, and secure it with tape.
Once we had our new theater structure, we cut a hole in the center and another on the side to insert puppets. For the curtain rod, we used a pipe cleaner, and for the curtains themselves, we salvaged some fabric scraps. While the girls managed most of the cutting and decorating independently, they did need a bit of help putting together the curtains so they could slide smoothly. Still, the overall design was entirely their creation.
After finishing the main theater, the girls expressed interest in making a smaller puppet theater too. They decorated this one with markers and added a backdrop on the backside of the box. It was finally ready for their performances.
Next, the girls got busy designing their own puppets. They used cardboard, markers, and drinking straws to bring their creations to life. The range of characters they came up with was impressive—some were small, others larger, and naturally, there were a few Minions thrown in for good measure.
Once their puppets were complete, the girls crafted tickets and invited the entire family to witness their theatrical debuts. While I must admit, they still need to refine their scripts and practice their lines, it’s been an incredible exercise in storytelling, listening, and public speaking.
This activity is simple to set up and only requires items you likely already have at home. What’s more, it’s a fantastic way to involve the whole family. Although it provides hours of entertainment, be prepared to endure a few amateur dramatics. The girls are determined to show their entire play, often repeating it multiple times for good measure.
Overall, it’s been a delightful experience, even if it means sitting through a few extra performances. If you’re looking for a creative and engaging project, this cardboard box theater ticks all the boxes. Don’t forget to pin this idea for later—it’s bound to spark some creativity in your household!
Arm Chair
An armchair, also known as an armchair or lounge chair, is a comfortable chair with armrests and a backrest. It is designed to provide a comfortable seating experience, particularly for relaxation or leisure activities.
Armchairs come in various styles, sizes, and materials to suit different preferences and interior designs. They can be upholstered with fabric, leather, or other materials, and their frames can be made of wood, metal, or a combination of both. The armrests are typically positioned at a comfortable height to support the arms while sitting.
Armchairs often have padding or cushioning on the seat, backrest, and armrests to enhance comfort. Some armchairs may also feature additional features such as reclining mechanisms, footrests, or built-in cup holders.
Armchairs are commonly used in living rooms, bedrooms, home offices, or any other space where people want to sit and relax. They provide a cozy spot for reading, watching television, having conversations, or simply unwinding after a long day.
