How To Package Cushions: The Packaging Doctor
How to Package Cushions: The Packaging Doctor's Guide
The Surgery Is Now Open

Hi Packaging Doctor,
I've recently launched a small interior business that focuses on soft furnishings, and I'm currently making cushions in different materials. Right now, all my cushions are the same size — a rectangular shape of 45cm x 30cm. I only need a couple of packaging options depending on whether a customer orders one or multiple cushions.
Do you have any recommendations for suitable packaging?
Best Wishes,
Adelaide
Hi Adelaide,
Thanks for reaching out — it’s always exciting to hear about new businesses, especially in the creative sector. For your cushion line, I’d definitely recommend going with a double-wall box. Although cushions are light, they’re also quite delicate and can easily get damaged during transit. A double-layer corrugated box offers better protection against moisture, scuffs, and general wear and tear.
Considering your cushion dimensions (45cm x 30cm), I’d suggest our 18 x 12 x 12 inch double-wall box. It fits perfectly with the length and width of your cushions and is multi-scored, which means you can adjust the height as needed. For two cushions, the full 12-inch height works well, but if you're shipping just one, you can cut the box down to 9 inches — this makes storage easier and helps reduce costs since you can buy in bulk rather than ordering multiple sizes for single-item vs. bulk shipments.
If you want extra protection from humidity, I’d also recommend placing each cushion inside a polythene bag and including a silica gel sachet. This will help keep the cushions dry, especially if they're being shipped in humid conditions.
Hope that helps — feel free to reach out again if you need more advice!
