Both β1 and β2 components are distinguishable through agar electrophoresis. The substance is highly soluble in water and neutral sodium chloride solutions. Its isoelectric point (pI) ranges from 5.1 to 5.2. The specific optical rotation [α]₂₅ᴰ is -30.4° in acetate buffer at pH 4.8 with an ionic strength of 0.1. At a concentration of 1%, the absorbance at 280 nm is 9.3. This product is widely used in biochemical research, including the study of protein structure and function, organic molecule interactions, and as a non-glycoprotein molecular weight marker for SDS-PAGE. It also serves as a valuable tool in genetic and pathological studies, and as a raw material for preparing genetic markers.
