Recycling of used plastics

According to reports, Italian scientists recently invented a new technology that can produce high-strength and high-value polymers from a mixture of waste plastics.

The researchers said that this technology is to produce uniform melting by decomposing the molecules of plastic waste and then regenerating these molecules to synthesize hybrid molecules. The latest method is to add solid carbon dioxide (ie, dry ice) to the mixture. The carbon dioxide becomes liquid under a certain pressure, causing a slight explosion like the collision of hot balls. Part of the carbon dioxide evaporates into gas in seconds. The result is various molecules. Fragments react rapidly with unpaired electrons at the ends of the decomposition chain and recombine rapidly to form a solid new polymer.

It is reported that the composite material produced by this method has the same strength as pure polyethylene and is as hard and durable as PVC plastic.
