Tianshan Paper Mill Produces TMP Pulp with Poplar and Spruce

The TIANSHAN paper mill with an annual output of 17,000 t offset press papers, based on the success of 100% spruce TMP pulp newsprint production, expanded the raw material market and made bold tests, using 15% to 20% poplar wood The wood chips were mixed with 80% to 85% spruce wood chips to make high-quality newsprint papers and made gratifying achievements.

In recent years, with the implementation of the National Natural Forest Protection Project, the original ecological forest area in the Tianshan Mountain area has been listed as an autonomous natural ecological protection area. The limited forest and wood cutting has forced the newly started Tianshan Paper Mill to face a new round of raw material crisis. After extensive investigation and analysis, the Tianshan Paper Mill has confirmed that the poplar resource in Yili area is very rich, and the natural environment in the area is very suitable for the growth of poplar wood, especially the fast-growing and high-yielding poplar which has been successfully researched by the Xinjiang Academy of Forestry in recent years. With large annual reserves and short harvesting period, it is suitable for large-scale planting and can build large-scale sustainable use of papermaking forest bases.

In order to master the properties of poplar TMP pulp, Tianshan Paper Mill invested mass production experiments based on a large amount of poplar wood material analysis and experiments. Whole Yangmu TMP two-stage pulping, the degree of beating up to 36 ~ 50 ° SR, cracking length 2300 ~ 2400m, whiteness 59% ~ 61%. Compared with spruce TMP pulp, refining energy consumption can be greatly reduced.

In order to make the poplar wood well utilized under the existing process conditions, the factory decided to pulverize the raw wood chips of poplar wood and spruce with different material properties in a certain proportion. During the production process, the slurry is continuously tested and analyzed, and the process parameters are constantly optimized at a high speed so that the performance of the slurry is gradually improved. The beating degree of the mixed raw material slurry is 68-72°SR, the fracture length is 3500-4200m, and the whiteness is over 60%. All indicators have been greatly improved over the original spruce pulp. It has been proved by practice that the two raw materials can play a complementary role in the mixing of fiber raw materials with large differences in material properties under the conditions of high process parameters. For example, the addition of poplar increases the content of short fibers in the original spruce long-fiber pulp, which can increase the beating degree of the pulp and improve the papermaking performance. According to the newsprint test results produced by poplar and spruce mixed wood chips TMP pulp, it has fully met the requirements of newsprint superior products.

The use of poplar wood can not only make up for the shortage of raw materials, but also provide sustainable material protection for the paper mills. With the increase in the proportion of poplar wood, the cost of raw materials can be greatly reduced.
